Kerikeri Basin Weedbusters are a small group of dedicated volunteers who meet twice a month to remove weeds. They’ve been improving the look of the Basin area, working mainly along the Kerikeri River Track toward the old power station and round the Basin carpark. Among these weeds are cherry trees, tobacco weed, honeysuckle, jasmine and wandering jew.
‘Our town, our land is a showcase to tourists. We should be proud of what we’ve got to show. We’re working with the Department of Conservation to make sure it happens”, says Winsome Fisher.
The team could use more help. If you enjoy being outdoors in fun company and would like to help phone Winsome Fisher 09 407 5244.
Basin Weedbusters meet every 2nd and 4th Monday of each Month, from 9am at the Kerikeri basin carpark. They usually work till midday but are welcome to work longer if they wish.
All tools and safety gear are provided. Volunteers are requested to wear suitable footwear and clothing and to bring morning tea.
Any help is welcomed, whether you have an hour to spare or a whole day.
