Forest & Bird Society Hibiscus Coast Branch
Weedbuster Type: Group
Contact Person: Pauline Smith
Forest and Bird Hibiscus Coast have had plenty to do with weeds at Karaka Cove on the Whangaparaoa peninsula, included hosting a YMCA group of 14 students from the New York Boston area of USA; along with 4 leaders and 3 F&B members they planted 300 trees , released last year’s planting, and then targeted arum lily, thistle, and climbing asparagus. One sharp eyed lad spied the pods of a moth plant high in the canopy of the kanuka, and that vine was removed as well.
We have also had groups of staff from the Auckland Council resource management team helping out. They worked all day in the bush and removed 12 sacks of climbing asparagus. They only did either side of the track so there is more to be done. It is great to get these corporate groups looking for environmental work!
