Denis Blomquist
Highly Commended for Weedbusting Efforts
Region: Canterbury
Award Category: Canterbury
Year: 2012
I am nominating an individual, Denis Blomquist, who is a volunteer for Banks Peninsula Conservation Trust. Denis puts in a number of hours at a variety of covenants and does so in a no-frills but highly effective manner. I am familiar with Denis’s work at the Manson covenant at Birdlings Flat, a locally rare shrubland environment with a range of fascinating native plants and eager invaders. Much of the work in the covenant is hand weeding but on occasions there is a need for cutting and treating stumps as well as foliar spraying. Denis simply never fails to turn up and I know that he is involved with other covenants in terms of weed control and fencing issues, a man with a remarkable commitment to our local biodiversity.
