Award Nominee

I would like on behalf of Puhoi Landcare to nominate Richard Walters from Puhoi. He is a tireless worker in our Local Puhoi Pioneers Memorial Park. Every week he goes out to either do weed clearing including areas of large privet to plant up with natives, to scrub cutting along the Puhoi River so our volunteers can plant native riparian species. He then follows up with spraying any weeds coming through such as bindweed. In addition to this he has been weed releasing and clearing in areas that were planted in previous years. He works on his own initiative, if he cannot attend one of our volunteer working bees, he ensures that he has done some prep work beforehand to assist us. We are a small group of only 4 on the committee and all his help is so valuable to us. Puhoi is situated between Orewa and Warkworth so it is difficult to get volunteers to help us with our projects and Richard has always been on hand whenever we need him. He has also done a growsafe course with council assistance. I highly recommend him.
