Sally Tripp
Region: Canterbury
Award Category: Canterbury
Year: 2008
As convenor of The Governors Bay Landcare Group and the Governors Bay Community Association, Sally Tripp deserves particular recognition for her continued significant contribution to control of Old Man’s Beard and other weeds in the Governor’s Bay area.
Not only does she get involved physically controlling Old Man’s Beard on the QEII covenanted land in Zephyr Valley which is up-valley from her own property, she spends considerable hours initiating, co-ordinating and administering meetings with local residents, council staff and contractors regarding control of Old Man’s Beard on public road reserve along the Governor’s Bay foreshore.
Public education and providing opportunities for the public to become aware of and involved in weed control issues in the local area are Sally s incredible strengths. Particularly when at times these issues are controversial in the community with mixed feelings amongst the locals due to drainage and land stability issues, and the feasibility of control of weeds such as Old Man’s Beard. In difficult circumstances, Sally valiantly continues on in her own encouraging way.
Thank you Sally for so many hours given to protecting valued forest remnants in the inner Lyttelton Harbour area with the work you do getting the whole community co-ordinated in tackling the Old Mans Beard weed issues.
