Profile
This group of neighbours tackle weeds and plant natives on private and public land in a small piece of New Lynn known as Fruitvale. We have several tributaries of a stream called Scroggy (= Scrubby) running through our gardens and reserves.
We tackle quite a few weeds and plant natives when we get support/resources from Auckland Council or Trusts but such support is getting harder to find these days. We aren’t a legal entity just a loose bunch of people interested in improving our neighbourhood.
Weeds of our area include: tradescantia, tree privet, Chinese privet, Japanese honeysuckle, jasmine, Madeira vine, woolly nightshade, agapanthus, Kahili ginger, selaginella, cyperus rotundata, alligator weed, blackberry, brush wattle, Chinese windmill palm, Phoenix palm, climbing asparagus, crack willow, giant reed, green goddess, grey willow, ivy, monkey apple, monbretia, moth plant, palm grass, periwinkle, cestrum spp, shrub balsam, tuber ladder fern, veldt grass (Ehrharta erecta), bear’s breeches, and Japanese walnut.
